Meet the Founder

My name is Kate and I am the Founder of Disability Teacher. I founded the Practice after witnessing the significant time pressures SENDCos are under and the gap that often exists between health and education. 

Experience

Specialist Teacher in Physical Disability and Complex Medical Needs.  Conditions include but are not limited to Achondroplasia, Arthrogryposis, Cerebral Palsy, Cancers, Cystic Fibrosis, Down Syndrome, Dystrophies including SMA, Epilepsy, Gastrostomy (PEG feeding), Hydrocephalus and Shunts, Limb difference, Osteoporosis Imperfecta (Brittle Bones)  Spina Bifida,  Spinal cord injury, Stroke.  

10 years as a Specialist Teacher. 15 years in Mainstream and Special Education schools  (PMLD, SLD, Neurodiversity)

Lived experience

I am lucky enough to have a brother with complex Physical Disabilities, giving me a unique insight from a familial perspective, as well as navigating a fragmented system from the outside!

Qualifications

BA Hons (Soc and Econ), PGCE Secondary, NPQML, Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills (BACP), Level 2 Mental Health First Aid (BACP). Graduate Diploma in Psychology 

Training: TEACCH, Team Teach, PECS, Makaton,  Drawing and Talking Practitioner. MOVE. Lego Therapy. Intensive Interaction. Whizzkidz Wheelchair skills. Moving and Handling Train the Trainer-EDGE
